Top 5 Travel Tips for Visiting Tanzania

November 25, 2022 by John Telford

Traveling to a new country is always an exciting experience. Tanzania is known for its warm Swahili culture and fantastic wildlife. So, if you wish to have a safari in one of the best national parks in the world, Tanzania is the place to be. You also get to explore the Serengeti, climb up Mount Kilimanjaro and witness the fantastic vistas at Zanzibar. But before you start planning your itinerary, there are a few things that you should know about Tanzania. Here are some tips that will help you plan your upcoming trip to Tanzania easily:

Check Visa Requirements

Most foreign travelers are required to obtain a tourist visa in order to visit Tanzania. However, the country allows some foreign people, usually Africans and Asians to travel to Tanzania visa-free for around three months. Still, the visitors need to acquire an entry permit approval. So, it is essential to check where you would need a visa to enter the country. If yes, you can also apply for Tanzania visa online.

Know Local Language

Knowing the local language can help you a lot while traveling. However, in Tanzania, things can get a little tricky as the country has 26 official languages. Out of these, Swahili is one of the most popular. So, it is better to know some basic words in the language that will help you explore the place easily. Also, English is another commonly spoken language and also an official language in Tanzania.

Currency Exchange Rate

Getting used to the currency exchange rate can also be quite confusing for foreign travelers. It is better to know the value of the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) beforehand to manage your finances well. This is the official currency of Tanzania. As of November 2022, the average currency rate is TZS  2332/1 USD. However, it is recommended to inquire about current rates at the time of your travel to ensure a hassle-free experience.

Healthcare and Vaccination

Healthcare is one of the most critical aspects while traveling. No matter which country you wish to explore, healthcare is something that should not be overlooked. Since Tanzania has a tropical climate, there are a bunch of bacterial infections common in the country. There are some vaccinations that foreign visitors should get before entering the African continent. Some of the most common diseases in Tanzania are- yellow fever, polio, typhoid, Diphtheria, and hepatitis A. Other than this, be sure that you receive your vaccination for Covid-19 and follow all the Covid-19 regulations stated by the government.

Tipping

Tipping is quite common in Tanzania. And you do not have to worry about it as most of the time staff members may ask for tips themselves. Usually, around 10 percent tips are standard for drivers, restaurant waiters, and concierges. So, be sure that you include tips while planning your travel budget.

Traveling to Tanzania can prove to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Be sure that you keep all the aforementioned points in your mind while planning your upcoming vacation to this magnificent destination.
