Guide to organizing a first long-haul flight with a baby

December 15, 2021 by John Telford

Travelling should not be daunting with you and your young baby, whether below one year or slightly above. It might seem tiresome and you are worried about how you will hack them, but a little enlightenment will make you book that flight for that vacation.

Book flexible flights

As a parent, you know your child’s sleeping hours, and you can use this to your advantage. When booking the flight, you can quickly fix it along their sleep or nap time so that they can be asleep time of departure or arrival. The reason is that some might be afraid of the take-off and landing; therefore, taking off or landing when they are asleep will save you more trauma and impact on the plane.

Carry a car seat or stroller

A car seat is an essential item that will save you long hours of holding the baby while on the plane. The stroller can be easily fitted on the flight seat so that they are comfortable during the journey.

Additionally, the stroller is paramount for your arrival time; you do not want to be struggling with your luggage in one hand and a baby in another.

Pack baby essentials

Long-haul travels will need you to have a change of clothes during the journey because we all know they need to change frequently to reduce contamination rates. Baby girl clothes are very crucial when you are packing for your daughter. Moreover, the baby girl clothes should be warm if you travel for the summer and warm for winter.

Packing extra essentials like the diapers will save you much hassle if the child needs to have a call. The plane attendant also will be kind enough to direct you to the changing area.

Book the best seats

When travelling with a toddler, you should select an excellent space to sit; some young toddlers want to enjoy the views whenever they wake and get fascinated with the sky. Selecting seats that will allow you to sit with your children will enable you to stop distracting other passengers during the journey.

Carry toys or books

Since it is a long journey, it is good to keep them distracted when they wake up, especially if you take off when they are asleep. At times at night, you will need to soothe them to sleep, by reading them their favourite books will make them entertained.

Pack essential documents

You might be overwhelmed when packing for the child and might forget the travel documents, ensure you have the correct passports, letter of consent, and visa as you will need to show the travel agents before boarding. You should also ensure they are valid and updated to prevent flight cancellation.

Conclusion

You should never be scared travelling with your young ones, especially toddlers; it is effortless if you use this guide. Grab your flight tickets and enjoy the holiday.
