If you’re in the market for jade (or other trinkets or souvenirs), this bustling market, which sets up on weekends under a highway overpass near Da’An Forest Park, is the place to come. Pieces on offer range from high-end jade carvings and jewelry (which can go for thousands of dollars) to antique coins, kitsch souvenirs, and costume jewelery. Not all pieces are the real deal, and haggling is expected, but if you have a sharp eye and stick to your guns, you can score some great bargains here.

Even if we’re not in the market for jade, it’s still fun to browse the colorful stalls and haggle goodnaturedly with the vendors (who expect this). This is one of our favorite spots to pick up souvenirs.

GOOD TO KNOW

Not all vendors speak English, but you shouldn’t have much trouble making yourself understood–other shoppers are often eager to jump in and help with translation. If you’re buying lots of items from one stall, try to negotiate a package deal. This market is in the same location as the Jianguo Holiday Flower Market, where you can pick up bonsai trees, orchids, and other local flora.
