    VIBE

Those who stop in at Tortilla Flats are looking for a good time, and it’d be difficult not to have one at this boisterous, fun-loving bar and restaurant. With an unabashedly kitsch, classic Tex-Mex look, the space is cluttered with cheesy pop art, Elvis memorabilia, and (best of all) tacky red-yellow-green Christmas lights. For all that the noise levels and décor are screamingly loud, the food is surprisingly down-to-earth, though. The highlights? Nachos, burritos, and (without a doubt) the endless pitchers of margaritas. Throw back a few glasses and get ready for a party–this place hosts events on multiple nights of the week and is often crammed until the early hours.

    CROWD

Packed to overflowing with 20-something partiers. It’s a popular spot for celebrations like bachelorette parties.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Casual; jeans, a trendy tee, and flats will do, unless you’re here for the party, in which case, go for something a bit more flashy.

    GO HERE WITH

A group of friends; the post-work happy hour gang; your best wing-girl (but no dates–this is not really a date place)

    WHY WE LIKE IT

Event nights and cheap drinks–need we say more? It’s one of the best places to start out a party night, which is convenient since it’s walking distance from the Meatpacking District.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The deafening noise level. You’ll go hoarse just trying to converse. Also, it can get crowded to the point of being suffocating. The food is solid for such a party spot, but isn’t our favorite in the city, (but that’s not why we come, anyway).

    GOOD TO KNOW

It’s a dive bar, for sure, but tackiness can be forgiven when there is the dirt-cheap food and drink to be had. Events that commonly take place throughout the week include Bingo Night, a hula-hoop contest, and trivia (check their website for more info). If you are booking for a large group, keep in mind that reservations are secured with a credit card and you will be charged USD 10 if you don’t show. Also, on busy nights, they will only seat fully present parties, so make sure you’ve got everyone before you head in.

    CLOSEST COMPS

Dos Caminos Soho (New York); Crazy Homies (London); Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar (Palm Beach); El Carmen (Los Angeles)
