VIBE
Experience a taste of Shanghai at this elegant restaurant in the heart of Midtown. An upscale Chinese theme is pervasive: calligraphy scrolls by famous artists line the walls, as do faux-ancient vases mounted in display cases. The Shanghainese and Soochow cuisine lives up to its reputation as one of the most refined in China with well-executed versions of dishes like soup dumplings, sautéed rice cakes, and shredded pork with string beans. Service is exceptionally attentive–wait staff hover near tables to gracefully spoon out food portions.
CROWD
The well-heeled Midtown set, corporate lunchers, Chinese expats, and special occasioners.
WHAT WE WOULD WEAR
Go upscale casual with a classy blouse, pencil skirt, and conservative heels.

WHY WE LIKE IT
In addition to the delicious and delicate Shanghainese food, we love the well-dressed surrounds, which elevate the dining experience to another level. Plus the complimentary pickled radishes and seaweed-seasoned peanuts are great–a sort of Chinese amuse bouche, if you will.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
The tables in the hallway leading to the main dining room are some of the least desirable we have ever encountered. Avoid.
GOOD TO KNOW
If you are unfamiliar with Shanghainese or Soochow cuisine, don’t be afraid to ask the waiter for recommendations. Delivery and takeout are available.
