    VIBE

Tucked away on quiet Bond Street, this antique-laden Mediterranean restaurant has been wooing foodies since it first opened in 1994. The owners, an indie filmmaker and her Italian boyfriend, source all the artisanal ingredients from local farmers in Umbria, an effort which adds that extra bit of authenticity to every bite. Diners can choose between the livelier upstairs space (filled with an artfully worn collection of communal tables, suspended copper pots, and weathered bar stools) or the two-centuries-old basement space, a quieter and more romantic candlelit setting popular with daters.

    CROWD

Tuned-in locals, foodies, and clusters of creative types (poets, writers, filmmakers, artists, photographers, and the like)

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Something stylishly casual like a pretty blouse with a pair of jeans and heels.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

We can’t help but fall for its rustic and romantic charms. The food is phenomenally fresh, the antique décor transports you to Italy, and the service fantastic.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

It can be a touch dark during the daytime.

    GOOD TO KNOW

The restaurant is open late on the weekends (swing by then and you might even spot a chef or two). This is a fabulous date spot; be sure to request a table in the candlelit wine cellar for added romance. In addition to private rooms, the entire restaurant can be rented for larger parties; if you’re springing for this, Il Buco will share their own event planner (who is quite helpful), private tastings, and even exclusive party favors.
