    VIBE

Though it’s been around since the late ‘90s, the Bowery Ballroom is still considered this city’s hottest venue for catching the latest and greatest indie music acts. The space is divided into three floors–a curved balcony, a lower level lounge (where rockers can rendezvous before the show), and an airy main level backed by a theatrical stage that retains much of its original Beaux Arts construction–and there’s a bar on each level. Stellar acoustics, killer sound system, and great views from basically anywhere you stand have made this former vaudeville hall a legend on the rock/alternative music scene.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

This is a rocker palace, so we’d go with the crowds and wear a funky graphic tee, hip jeans, black boots, and a hairdo we don’t mind getting messy (dancing is inevitable, especially if you are near the stage).

    CROWD

Indie-rock lovers, musicians, and anyone looking for a rocking live show.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

This is one of the last few live music venues left in the city, and is probably the best place to catch rising young bands before they hit the big time. Because the place only holds 550 people, every concert feels intimate.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The décor has seen better days and the box office (located at Mercury Lounge) is cash only.

    GOOD TO KNOW

Because the box office is a cash-only ticket distributor, it’s best to book beforehand with a credit card through retailers like Ticketmaster (especially for bigger acts, which tend to sell out quickly). Sister venues by Bowery Presents include the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Mercury Lounge, and Terminal 5.
