VIBE
As expected, the ceiling-high windows of Dream Hotel’s penthouse lounge boast fabulous views of the city, and the interior vistas of suited men and dressed up gals perched on AVA’s futuristic furniture are just as pretty. None of this, however, compares to the beachy rooftop bar a floor up, where, on summer nights, DJs spin hip-hop beats for the cocktail set schmoozing amidst palm trees and enjoying spectacular panoramic views of the city from the Hudson River to Times Square. Though this may seem predominantly a swinging singles scene, hotel guests and couples manage to have a good time thanks to the fabulous vistas and cordial staff.
WHAT WE WOULD WEAR
If you’re coming with a friend or a date, dress it up a bit with a flattering low-cut top, sleek skirt, and fancy clutch. If you’re here for a party, feel free to spice things up with a shimmery cocktail dress and high heels. (Just don’t forget a cardigan, especially if you’re looking to hang out on the roof!)
GO HERE WITH
Friends - for the party scene and killer Times Square views; Manhattan first-timers; a date
CROWD
It’s an über-hip scene of post-work suits, hotel guests, and pretty young things looking to party.
WHY WE LIKE IT
We dig the indoor-outdoor design of the place, which allows us to enjoy the views at any time of year. Their signature colorful cocktails are strong and especially delicious (we loved the Tiger Lily!) while basically everything on the extensive snack menu tempts us.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
The place can get jammed on weekends.
GOOD TO KNOW
More often than not, private parties rent out the terrace on weekends, so be sure to call ahead before making any plans to drop by. The rooftop bar is closed during the winter. To get to AVA Lounge, take the hotel’s lobby elevators to the penthouse floor.
