VIBE
Balanced 35 floors up in the sleek new Time Warner complex at Columbus Circle, the Mandarin Oriental offers the best of both worlds: being in the thick of things yet fashionably above it all. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout (from the hot cocktail lounge to the guest rooms) dazzle with astounding vistas of Central Park and the skyline. And while guests lose themselves in the view, the superb service expertly manages the smallest of details, from postcard stamps to the perfect turndown. Though there’s an impressively decadent set of amenities in the hotel, from sceney restaurants to a lush spa. The sprawling shopping and dining complex downstairs offers a plethora of other options, too.

WHY WE LIKE IT
It’s a classic luxury experience but with an added jolt of sex appeal and style–perfect for a fashionable city break. We love waking up to the stunning (albeit vertiginous) views of sun glinting off of the city’s millions of windows and then capping our evenings scoping the sizzling lounge scene and the city lights.
AMENITY WE LOVE
The indulgent five-star spa (at 14,500 sq. ft., it's considered the greatest luxury hotel spa in Manhattan). We’re especially hooked on the gorgeous VIP spa suite, with (squeal!) a fireplace.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Though you're up ever so high, views from some of the fabulous windows are blocked out by other buildings. Also, taking two elevators down just to get out the door is a pain in the neck if you’re in a rush (one Purple staffer was late for a lunch date because she was waiting for the lift).
GOOD TO KNOW
Try to get rooms on the same side of the building as the lobby lounge because they have the best views (Columbus Circle, Central Park, Manhattan skyline). If you’re looking for something a cut above, the corner suites have particularly stunning views. There are kid-friendly amenities available, including an age-appropriate welcome gift, complimentary cribs, and a games library. If you are dissatisfied with the in-house gym facilities, passes to Equinox (a fitness club located just around the corner) are available for USD 35/day.
