VIBE
An open secret among the city’s cash-strapped socialites and models, this upscale consignment shop offers designer fashions at a fragment of the original price. The airy, elegant boutique space is a far cry from most musty secondhand shops, and the list of designers featured reads like a Fashion Week program, with the likes of Prada, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Nina Ricci, and Dolce & Gabbana all frequently on the racks. As an added bonus, the staff can often tell you if any famous so-and-so have cavorted in a particular frock.

WHY WE LIKE IT
There’s none of the hardscrabble elbowing and digging involved at other vintage shops. This is a refined boutique experience, and the collection is excellently edited. We particularly dig the selection of handbags, especially the ones in the display cases (which look near to brand new).
GOOD TO KNOW
You never have to worry about having to sort through racks of mothballed polyester leisure suits to get to the good stuff because Fisch For The Hip’s strict consignment policy ensures that only near-new quality items from an elite selection of top designers are accepted. (Look up their buying policies in advance if you’re planning on bringing something to hawk because they don’t accept just any old designer wear.) Keep in mind that because these items have been worn by models and the towering red carpet crowd, the dresses and various other clothing pieces tend to suit a taller, lankier shopper.
