There may be a wall separating Nougatine from its famous sibling, Jean-Georges Vongerichten's triple-Michelin-starred restaurant Jean Georges. But it boasts the same masterful chef, and at a fraction of the cost and to-do, making this, arguably, Monsieur Vongerichten’s most accessible restaurant. Don't fret over making month-in-advance reservations, because walk-ins are generally accepted. And compared to the pomp of the resto next door, the space is refreshingly down to earth (neutral wicker furniture, muted lamp lighting, and jaunty murals). In season, diners can enjoy the beautiful outdoor terrace (a unique treasure on the Midtown lunch scene).

Unfortunately, Nougatine still sits in the shadow of its neighbor…you can’t help but wonder what you’d be eating if you were dining next door.

Like Jean George, Nougatine offers a prix fixe lunch. No prix fixe dinner, though, just a tasting menu (USD 78) or à la carte.
