A classic: an old tavern sitting on the corner of a typical West Village cross street, doling out the same deliciously greasy, thick, bun-dwarfing burgers and sweet ale as it has since its founding. Sure, the floor is sticky with beer, the stools rickety, and the service as rough around the edges as the battered mahogany bar, but demand still rings strong for those unbeatably cheap USD 2.50 drafts of McSorley's and USD 6.75 Bistro Burgers. Some hail it the best burger in New York, but even if you've become fiercely loyal to others (Shake Shack, J.G. Melon, etc.), you definitely have to try it at least once.

WHY WE LIKE IT

It's a West Village staple–cheap and cheerful pub grub and beers on tap. Fab place for a casual pint without resorting to a dive. A real NY experience.

There's nothing secret about the affordability and history of this place–lines (and long ones at that) are pretty much a given, especially on weekends and in the evenings.

Cash only. There's not much variety on the menu (though you shouldn't really be looking for anything past the burgers, anyway).
