VIBE
A relaxed beer garden for the Meatpacking District set. Sprawled out under The High Line, this painfully trendy beer garden at The Standard keeps hipsters and off duty financiers happy with hefty steins of lager served up by beer wenches in ironic dirndl-themed t-shirts. The picnic tables are perpetually crammed on weekends, but if you drop in on a weekday you might even be able to join in a game of upscale beer pong.
WHAT WE WOULD WEAR
Meticulously distressed jeans and an artfully rumpled designer t-shirt
GO HERE WITH
German beer aficionados; pals - for a low key weekend drinking and gabbing session
CROWD
Funny mix of trendy partiers and 30- to 40- something suits.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The Standard is known for its exclusive watering holes (case in point: the top-floor “Boom Boom Room” is now members-only), so we were pleasantly surprised by the low key door policy at the Biergarten. Sure, you might have to wait on line for longer than you’d like to buy tix for pretzels and beer (yup, it really functions like an authentic beer garden), but what else would you expect from a trendy spot in the Meatpacking District? This is one of our top spots for hanging out with the gang on a weekend afternoon.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
It’s. Always. Packed. Those picnic tables are hard to come by. Also, they’ve only got three types of beer on tap.
GOOD TO KNOW
If you’re looking to escape the craziness of the of the buzzing garden, there are a few rooms off the main seating area with more picnic tables and a more conversational vibe.
