VIBE
Despite the name, don’t expect eccentric Brit kitsch or hoity-toity aristocratic airs from The London. This is a hotel that oozes sophisticated cool, with luxurious yet streamlined interiors by designer David Collins, spacious suites ideal for low-key cocktails with friends, and a laidback concierge who knows all. Business travelers gravitate to perks like the stylish fitness studio, while touristy types rave about having such a roomy, plush retreat after hard days of pounding the pavement.

WHY WE LIKE IT
They had us at “standard rooms start at 500 square feet.” The glorious spaciousness combined with the swinging sense of style makes for a very hip NYC pied-à-terre indeed. Ideal for everything from long-stay digs for business high-fliers to a party pad for the young-and-fun set. (And we also dig the genuine staff and convenient location.)
AMENITY WE LOVE
The Gordon Ramsay eats, which you can enjoy at the restaurant or in the comfort of your own suite.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Would be nice to have tubs in more of those spacious bathrooms.
GOOD TO KNOW
If you crave views, check into a “Vista” suite–you’ll even be able to see Central Park. Calls to London are free during specified hours. The sophisticated onsite meeting and event spaces can accommodate up to 80 guests. One for the hotel historians: the London New York used to be the RIHGA Royal Hotel. Pets are permitted for a USD 125 fee. Valet parking available.
