    VIBE

Eric Goode and Sean MacPhaerson (the team behind the much-hyped Bowery Hotel) have turned their hands to low-key lodging with this 15-room guest house that offers deeply romantic and ultra-vintage Victorian suites (complete with working fireplaces, velvet upholstery, handpicked antique furnishings, and Old-World-esque sitting rooms). In contrast to their other properties, there’s no scene (heck, there’s not even a lobby or 24-hour staff), so expect to feel more like you’re in a private home than a trendy boutique.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

It’s an excellent choice for independent types or NYC experts who don’t need the coddling of a concierge. Not only do the rooms have jaw-dropping vintage décor, but they also offer more space than the average Big Apple flat, making this a great home-away-from-home spot. We also dig how the friendly staff knows every guest by name.

    AMENITY WE LOVE

The working fireplaces are a joy, especially during those cold winter nights. When the season turns to spring and summer, the private garden courtyard in back is a true charmer.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Would be nice to have staff on hand for more than just 8:00am-10:00pm, and we’d appreciate more amenities (like in-room spa services).

    GOOD TO KNOW

There’s no elevator, so unless you’re staying on the ground floor, be prepared to hike up some steep Victorian stairs. (A porter is available to carry suitcases.) If you arrive outside of staff hours (8:00am-10:00pm), you’ll have to pick up your keys at B Bar next door. Only two rooms have access to the exclusive garden courtyard in the back of the building (complete with a cute table for two) so be sure to specifiy when booking a room if you are interested in this perk. Bike rentals for two) so be sure to specifiy when booking a room if you are interested in this perk. Bike rentals are available from sister property Bowery Hotel.
