    VIBE

Though the Empire has over a century of history in the Big Apple, it’s managed to keep a surprisingly youthful glow–don’t expect a ponderous grand dame. Sure, it’s still got the original, grandiose stone entryway and that vintage neon sign on the roof, but a recent revamp injected the guestrooms with a contemporary cool and added a stylish rooftop pool and bar that’s prized by the trendy party scene.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

The stylish party atmosphere, especially at the rooftop bar. Plus, the beds (with Frette linens) are super soft, which makes it that much easier to recharge after long nights of wind-exposed rooftop schmoozing.

    AMENITY WE LOVE

Exclusive rooftop pool and bar (when they’re not closed for private parties…)

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The looong lines for the sloooow elevators. Another downside: there’s not much public space–the lobby is mostly taken up by the bar. And don’t get us started on the “business center” (more like a “business cupboard”).

    GOOD TO KNOW

If possible, book a corner suite–they’re way bigger than the standard rooms. Meeting facilities for up to 250 people are available. Valet parking available.
