VIBE
This historic 19th century tenement building has been lovingly restored by artist-owner Randy Settenbrino to preserve charming original features like pressed-tin panels, wrought iron banisters, and walnut shutters, all while adding a luxe 21st century edge. Each of the 22 apartment-style suites has its own kicky personality, with a mix of antique furnishings and swish treats like state-of-the-art hydrotherapy tubs, but all are spacious and airy. Like a guesthouse, onsite amenities are sparse, but there is a helpful 24-hour concierge service.

WHY WE LIKE IT
In a city where square footage is at a premium, these spacious suites are a treat. We dig the great views from the balconies too. Our favorite vista: the Williamsburg Bridge.
AMENITY WE LOVE
The deep soaking tubs–they’re a rarity in this city.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Though it boasts a spectacular Lower East Side location and offers brochures for down-the-street Mama Spa, there are no onsite amenities like a restaurant, gym, or spa. The bathrooms border on the small side and lack the charm of the main rooms. Also, the pillows are terrible.
GOOD TO KNOW
Entertainment buffs will thrill to the history lesson: each room is named for a 1920s or ’30s film star. Though muted, street noise can be heard up to the fifth floor. There are event spaces available on the lower level. For those looking to go sightseeing, the Tenement Museum is practically next door.
