VIBE
The young-and-fun Ace Hotel team has taken what was once the august Hotel Breslin and revamped it as a funky hipster hangout. Original features (like ornate mosaic floor in the lobby and wood-paneling in the bar) have been carefully preserved but updated with tongue-in-cheek retro twists. In the guest rooms, historic design elements are matched with an edgy industrial look and rocker-chic treats like Gibson guitars and turntables. Expect a cool, creative crowd of youngsters to be chilling with their Macs in the lobby at all times.

WHY WE LIKE IT
The trendy, artsy vibes are great–they bring out our inner indie kid. We also dig the user-friendliness of it all. Too often, trendy translates as “too cool to help,” but at Ace the beautiful people behind the front desk are always genuinely willing to assist. Another thoughtful touch: soundproofing is fantastic, so even though the lobby’s always buzzing, rooms remain peaceful. (That said, if you need absolute quiet, it’s a good idea to ask for a room on a higher floor.)
AMENITY WE LOVE
The quirky in-room amenities like turntables, Gibson guitars, and chalkboards.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
The “NoMad” location may be trendily “up and coming,” but it’s still in a no man’s land–just a smidge too far from the must-do’s of Chelsea and Midtown.
GOOD TO KNOW
Animal lovers at ease: the Rudy’s Barbershop bath amenities aren’t tested on animals and pets under 25 lbs. are allowed.
